I have to say one of my favorite investments this year, has been my cold brew coffee container.  In the summer months, living in Florida, hot coffee just doesn’t do it.  You may think that you can just brew a pot of coffee and THEN put it in the fridge to chill down for tomorrow’s coffee.  You can, that does work, and I’ve done it.  And if you don’t have a way to make cold brew coffee, that way will work just fine.  But, I’m here to tell you that the flavor of cold brew coffee just can’t be beat, it’s rich, it’s not bitter, it’s full bodied, it’s smooth and just plain delicious!

Another benefit of cold brew coffee is you don’t have to use an expensive coffee to get a smooth delicious cup of coffee.  So for those of us on a tight budget, you can use whatever coffee you want and it will generally come out tasting delicious.  For me there was one exception to that rule, it was a coffee that I bought at Aldi’s.  I don’t remember the name, but it was in a red bag.  That was some rough tasting coffee.  I’m not sure if we threw it away or tried mixing it into another container of coffee.  But on it’s on, cold brew and hot brew didn’t work.

The coffee that my husband and I like right now is this one:

So, lets talk about how to cold brew coffee.  When I first started, I found sites that showed how to do it with Mason jars.  I liked that method because it required no special equipment.  I already had mason jars!  Tons of them.  the Zen of Making has a great instructional post on how to do it.

What I didn’t like about making coffee in the mason jar was straining it.  That, to me, was always such a pain.  It was enough of a pain that I didn't want to make the cold brew coffee, even though I liked it much better than hot brew.  I started searching Amazon for a cold brew pot.  Surely there had to be something out there to make this process easier!  There is, and I bought it and LOVE it!  The Hario Water Brew Coffee Pot.   (aff link)

I fill it up, put it in the fridge and wake up to glorious cold brew coffee.  Bonus, it doesn't have to be strained.  The filter that sits inside the pot is a very fine mesh.  You don't have to use coarse ground coffee.  You can use whatever you would put in your automatic drip pot.

Please share what your favorite type of coffee is and how you brew it.  I have yet to try a french press.   I'm wondering if you need to use a super expensive coffee with it?  Maybe you like tea?  What types of tea do you like and how do you brew it?
